Our Honeymoon Plans!

Boo!!! For automobiles and their lack of functioning!  My sister got a half hour from her apartment on her way here and her car broke down.

Soo....I will have to save her makeup and hair blog post until next weekend, which she is planning on coming for.

For now...let's just talk about my wedding!

The latest update to our plans has been booking our honeymoon.  Mike's parents are sending us on our honeymoon for a wedding gift...and we are SO excited!  (I think Mike might be more excited for the honeymoon than the actual wedding, but let's keep that on the down low.)

So when we first started looking into where we might want to go, we decided that somewhere tropical was definitely ideal for us.  We were looking around a lot on the internet at all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, but there are SO many of them, and we didn't know how to go about finding the best one for us (we wanted to go somewhere nice, but we didn't want it to be too expensive for Mike's parents).  Mike's mom suggested that we use Mike's AAA membership to plan it.

We went to AAA with a general idea of what we wanted...no specifics.  That being said, the travel agent was really helpful with narrowing down our options.  Whilst talking to her, we decided that we wanted to go to an 18 + over resort in order to avoid all the crazy kids and crazy parents yelling at the crazy kids (we have nothing against children, but we'd rather not spend our honeymoon with them).  All inclusive was our best bet to get a good price.  She narrowed our choices down to a resort in either the Dominican Republic or Jamaica.  I have been to Jamaica once when I was 15, (and that's pretty much the only place I've been) so I didn't really want to go there again.  I know that my honeymoon is going to be totally different than a family vacation no matter where you go, but I just wanted to go somewhere new for both of us.

Very comprehensive and informative brochure
Once we decided to go to the Dominican Republic, AAA made it so easy for us to see what the pros and cons were of each resort.  The prices that they gave us were the prices for everything, airfare and airport transportation included.  Once we compared prices, we found the resorts in our price range that got the most stars.  In the end it was between the Catalonia Royal Bavaro and the Excellence, both in Punta Cana.  Some of the things we liked about the Catalonia were the small number of guest rooms (we don't like big crowds) and the access to their sister resort, just down the beach.  The Excellence had more bars and restaurants than the Catalonia (Excellence has 10 bars and 8 restaurants, Catalonia has 4 bars, 3 restaurants).  It also has a swim-up bar, which Mike was really excited about, and horse-back riding, which I was excited about.  The Excellence was also cheaper and was rated half of a star higher than the Catalonia, so we decided on the Excellence Resort.
The Excellence Punta Cana...I CANNOT wait!

We are flying out of Portland 2 days after our wedding and we will be there for a whole week!  We had the option of an ocean-view or a garden-view suite.  We went with the garden-view because we didn't care all that much about the view and it was a better price.  Besides, it doesn't look so bad to me...
I feel bad for all of our wedding guests who don't get to go...NOT!
I have decided that this definitely calls for some new bathing suits, and a little trip to the salon for some waxing before we go.  I am kind of afraid that I am not going to want to come back to Maine, although summer in Maine is not so bad either.  Now all we need to do is renew Mike's passport and find someone to take care of Albi for a week...good luck to us.

Thanks for reading =)
