Wedding Planning: Our Reception!

Hey there!
This is going to be an update on mine and Mike’s wedding planning!  Here are all the details about our reception!

The space…
Our reception will be inside the Cliffside Lodge.  It’s a beautiful big room with exposed beams and a huge fire place.  It’s just gorgeous.  We’re not sure how we are going to set up the tables yet, but we know that we want to put some garden lights outside on the porches so people can hang out there during the reception.  We don’t have a florist yet, but we are thinking that we want the flowers on the tables to just be baby’s breath.  I think that would look so simple and fresh.

The music…
We’ve got a DJ for both the ceremony and the reception.  Mike knows more of the details about him, but his name is Marcel and we met him and thought that we was a cool guy and would do a good job and give us what we wanted.  We have an ongoing list of songs that we want played at our reception (which is already pretty long), so he may not have a lot of creative freedom!  What I wanted to avoid as far as the DJ went was someone with that even announcer’s voice.  You know that dramatic, low voice they use to get everyone excited?  I don’t want it to feel like I’m at a Laker’s game.

The food…
Our caterer is Wayne Mitton from Country Catering, which is in Litchfield, Maine.  We are going to have a cocktail hour and a buffet for dinner.  The cocktail hour is going to consist of a fruit platter, a cracker and cheese platter, pigs in a blanket (my dad’s request) and Mexican santillas (Wayne’s specialty).  Oh, and cocktails of course.  For dinner, there will be a garden salad, fresh rolls, Italian chicken kebobs, steak tips, stir fried vegetables, roasted potatoes and glazed carrots.  We had a tasting and tried most of this food and it was amazing!

The dessert…
My sister-in-law Genevieve is making our cake, which will look like a giant s’more.  We are going to have a ‘s’mores bar’, where people can toast their marshmallow in the fire place and then construct their s’more with all the fixings.  We knew we had to take advantage of the awesome fireplace, as well as Gen’s baking talents.  She is going to do a practice cake before the big day so we can see just what it will look and taste like.

The beverages…
We are having an open bar with one bar upstairs and one bar downstairs.  The Dogfish brewing company is going to be providing the alcohol and the services.  We’re definitely going to have a nice varied selection of beer and wine.  We are considering the idea of having a groom’s drink (a whiskey and coke) and a bride’s drink (I just don’t know!!).  I guess we will decide that later.  We want to have some wine or champagne available before the ceremony, in order to make people more enthusiastic :)

So there’s a lot of information on our reception...there are still so many other details going into this planning!  I just cannot wait for the day to finally get here!  Mike and I booked our honeymoon last week, so maybe I’ll talk about that.  Stay tuned for more!
